I store food for convenience and potential emergencies. I still go shopping every week to buy bread, produce, milk, etc., but I store flour and other ingredients dry ingredients so that if I ever had to make bread, I could.
Step 1. Make a list of what you eat for breakfast in 1 months’
time.
BREAKFAST SCHEDULE
------------------------------------------
Sunday: Cereal
Sunday: Cereal
Monday: Pancakes
Tuesday: Eggs
Wednesday Muffins
Thursday: French
Toast
Friday: Waffles
Saturday: Surprise Day
Step 2. Gather recipes you
use for breakfast and make a list of all the ingredients you would need to make them for one week.
In the “how much” column I write down how many units I will need for
different recipes. For example: In the pancake row I need 3 cups of pancake mix for pancakes, and 3 cups for waffles. Add those together and times by 4 to get your total month amount. Then times your month amount by 3 to get your 3 month amount. Repeat these steps for each item needed for your recipes.
*For small tsp or Tblsp amounts I don’t really add that. I just add the bigger amounts. For measurements in ½ or ¾, I just round up. It is better to have more than not enough!
Below you can see an example of a few items (these are not the only items I would need for my recipes above, but I think you get it).

This
lunch list is really flexible. I would never force my kids to take one of these
sandwiches to school if they didn’t like it, but it gave me some things to work
with.
Again this is just an example and does not include every single item you will need for the lunches.

Step 6. Gather your
favorite dinner recipes and start to make a food list for ingredients needed. Think of 31 dinners, some can e repeats of course for those family favorites that you make often. This time you won't need to multiply by 4 to get the 1 month amount since you are keeping track of ingredients for a months worth of meals.

Step 7. Start gaining a 3 month supply of dinner items.
Watch the deals of the week to know when to stock up on certain items!
Step 8. Think about fruits
and vegetables too. Even if you buy them
fresh, you could can them, freeze them, or dry them to keep them stored. Or make a list of any canned fruits and veggies you like that you could buy a three month supply of as well.
Step 9. Once you get a 3
month supply of basics, you can think about snack items you would want to have
or desserts. Just by storing the basic items, however,
you could make a lot of desserts: cookies,
pudding, cakes, etc.

Step 10. Use and rotate your storage! Budget some money each month and stock up on sale items. Little by little, you will get it. It won’t happen overnight. Even if you have a few basic things on hand, it helps a lot!
